Another kind of Blue, Sound Yard
Sound Yard – Another Kind of Blue, 2026 . Performance painting in collaboration with Isak Hedtjärn (clarinet)
The work at Sound Yard continues my long-term collaboration with Isak Hedtjärn, where painting and acoustic sound meet in real time. Earlier works such as Kvarpa o Blått have explored the relationship between control and unpredictability — between gesture and tone, between bodily impulse and the resistance of material.
At Sound Yard this encounter shifted through its context. The audience moves within an environment shaped by electronic music, digital production, and visual projections — a space where sound is often amplified, processed, and mediated.
Here, instead, an entirely analogue situation unfolded.
Isak played the clarinet without amplification. The air passing through the instrument became physical movement in the room. I responded with paint thrown, pressed, and driven into the canvas. Pigment travelled through the air, struck the surface with force, then ran and gathered under gravity.
What emerged was not a translation of music into image, but two parallel bodies at work. The breath of the clarinet and the weight of paint operated within the same acoustic space.
In contrast to the digital context, materiality became immediate: paint with its odor and viscosity, droplets landing, sound produced without filters. The audience’s attention sharpened in this direct encounter between action and consequence.
When the sound ceased, the painting remained as a trace of shared energy — an event in which analogue friction temporarily displaced the mediated flow.
