Pink Kraftstation
Salangen Biennalen, Salangen , Norway, 2023, Curator IPHIAN
Performance painting , water, cornstarch, food coloring.
Pink Kraftstation was performed on a large concrete surface at the harbor near Salangsverket. As with Midnight Painting, the work was shaped by the principle of leave no traces, requiring materials and methods that allowed the painting to disappear without physical impact on the site.
The performance was carried out using water, cornstarch, and food coloring applied directly onto the concrete. The image formed through the flow and evaporation of water, creating temporary fields of color that responded to the scale and hardness of the industrial surface. As the wet concrete dried, traces of color briefly intensified, revealing a drawing shaped by moisture, absorption, and time.
Within forty-eight hours, both the cornstarch and the pigment had completely vanished. The work remained only as a memory of an action and as a documentation of a process in which painting was treated as a transient state rather than a fixed object — a negotiation between material, place, and disappearance.
