Stenen Droppen och Himmel av Färg
MT Skövde Hospital, Sweden 2018
Permanent public installation
Medium
Rainbow-laminated glass, stainless steel structure, programmed water flow, stone
Description
A fourteen-ton stone, unearthed during excavation for the new hospital building, has been given a central position in the courtyard. Nested within it is a smaller, rounded and polished stone, placed in a carved hollow and slightly offset to optimize the angle of sunlight.
Above, a dome-like structure opens toward the sky. From its center, a copper pipe releases drops of water at a slow rhythm, increasing subtly as visitors approach.
A ring of rainbow-laminated glass refracts light into a shifting spectrum. Colored reflections move across the ground, changing with weather, time, and artificial light after dark.
