Ban Gata

Ban Gata is a temporary, site-specific light installation developed in 1997 at Konstfack, University of Arts, Crafts and Design, in Stockholm, in collaboration with Simon Häggblom

Temporary, site-specific light installation developed for Stadens ljus – artists and architects. A section of Konstfack’s courtyard was excavated and transformed into a simulated fragment of Katarina Bangata. A continuous yellow ground light was embedded on one side, while custom-designed bollards marked a central axis on the other. The surface was asphalted to create a deep black contrast against the yellow light and falling snow. At the end of the axis, a blue luminous tube—made with light-conducting foil—extended vertically along the façade of Konstfack(illustrating Skatteskrapan in the end of Katarina Bangata).
