Membran

Membran is a glass sculpture project developed in 1997 for the European Capital of Culture year, consisting of ten painted glass works scaled to the artist’s body. Riksarkivet, Konstnärshuset, Marcuskyrkan, Stockholm 1997

Each work was constructed from two sheets of glass fused into a bent form. One surface was painted and then laminated together with an additional glass layer, enclosing the pigment within the structure. The intention was to bring color and pigment directly into space, without canvas, suspension systems, or supporting structures.

The ten objects were shown in three distinctly different architectural contexts: the National Archives, Konstnärshuset, and Marcuskyrkan. By placing the same works in radically different spatial and institutional environments, the project examined how color, material, and perception shift from one setting to another—how the works transform, and how they in turn alter the experience of each space.
