Circle and Splash
Circle and Splash was a two-person exhibition by Torbjörn Johansson and Jan Marius Kiøsterud, presented at Gallery Molekyl in Malmö in 2019.
Johansson showed a series of paintings made with cultured milk on colored MDF panels. The panels were cut into grid structures and mounted directly onto the wall, allowing the architecture of the room to become an active component of each work. Through this fragmentation, painting extends into space and the room itself participates in the composition.
The exhibition also included a series of works on paper dusted with pigment, a sculpture made from polyurethane adhesive, and a cast aluminum object in which the artist’s breath was captured in wet plaster and later translated through sand casting. Across these works, Johansson explored material behavior, bodily presence, and processes of transformation.
The remaining sculptural works in the exhibition were by Jan Marius Kiøsterud, whose practice complemented the exhibition through materially driven, sculptural investigations.
