Tide is a site-specific work developed at the shoreline during the Salangen Biennale. The project explores the encounter between steel and saltwater, using corrosion as both process and material.
Steel plates were placed along the water’s edge and exposed to tidal movement over time. As the sea repeatedly washed over the surface, layers of rust formed, creating drawings that register the varying levels and rhythms of the tide. The work allows natural forces—salt, water, time, and movement—to act as co-creators, producing a material record of the site’s shifting conditions.
The resulting sequence of plates forms a linear composition in which corrosion becomes a visual trace of environmental interaction, embedding time and place directly into the material.
