Fan

Fan is a performance and temporary installation by south east / south west presented at WIP Konsthall in Stockholm in 2019.

Materials: Flour, paprika powder, industrial fan, cardboard tubes, metal pipes, cardboard cones
Dimensions: Site-specific, WIP Konsthall

Description:
Fan is a temporary installation and performance presenting the outcome of an ongoing experimental practice in which natural forces, materials, and bodies are brought into direct interaction. The work investigates the transformation between exterior and interior space, translating experiences of wind, movement, and matter from an outdoor environment into an indoor situation.

The performance begins with a large quantity of flour poured onto the floor. At ground level, a powerful fan propels the material into the space, dispersing it from a thin surface layer into denser, shifting formations. Flour and paprika powder are carried by the airflow, forming temporary structures that continuously change in response to gravity, turbulence, and the architecture of the room.

Through this process, the space is activated as a dynamic field rather than a static exhibition setting. Fan unfolds as a temporal situation where control and unpredictability coexist, and where the material behavior of air and matter becomes the primary agent shaping the work.
