Measures of Poetry

Measures of Poetry was an international group exhibition curated by Jan Van Woensel and presented at Bogardenkapel in Bruges in 2019.

Description: Measures of Poetry was an international group exhibition curated by Jan Van Woensel and presented in Bogarden’s Chapel in Brugge. The exhibition brought together members of the GoGo Collective, an artist collective formed at Cité internationale des arts in Paris in 2018.

The curatorial framework was informed by Vito Acconci’s concept of spatial poetry, used here as a methodology rather than a theme. Through the gradual and deliberate addition of artworks to the chapel space, the exhibition evolved from a linear reading into a rhizomatic structure. Meaning emerged through shifting relationships between works rather than through a fixed narrative.

Measures of Poetry functioned as a situational confrontation between space, artwork, order, body, sound, and language. The historic architecture of the chapel played an active role, shaping how the works were perceived and how viewers moved through the exhibition.

GoGo Collective approaches exhibitions as visual conversations, emphasizing dialogue between individual practices and the relationships that arise in shared space. In *Measures of Poetry*, this collective approach allowed content to unfold through proximity, resonance, and tension rather than through hierarchy.
